Senate Rejects Resolution Against Democracy in Airline and Rail Union Elections

The Senate rejected the resolution of disapproval introduced on the floor by Senator Isakson (R – GA) and firmly stated to the country that democracy will win elections not inequality. The recent NMB rule change, allowing for every vote cast being the only votes counted, will make union representation voting fair and democratic.

“We’re pleased that a resolution to kill democracy in the workplace was voted down by a majority of the Senate and received a veto threat from President Obama today, said Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO .“The Senate was right to dismiss this baseless challenge. Hopefully now it can get back to work on reviving the economy and putting Americans back to work.”

TCU President Bob Scardelletti stated “Any Senator who voted for this resolution is endorsing the idea that uncast votes should be counted as a no vote. They will stop at nothing to take away the rights of the middle class worker. I say that, in the Senate elections in their state, a person who does not vote should be counted as a vote against them. That would give them a taste of their own medicine.”
