TCU Legislative Representatives Work to Get Equal Benefits for Railroad Workers

$20 million of unemployment benefits will be extended to railroad workers now that changes have been added to The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009. The Railroad Retirement Board created the language, and TCU Assistant National Legislative Director Tony Padilla Lobbied members of the conference committee, that provides unemployment benefits to out-of-work railroad workers for an extended period up to 13 weeks. Effectively making unemployment benefits the same for railroad workers as those covered under state unemployment laws. The TCU Legislative Department was instrumental in having this included in the conference committee’s changes to the stimulus package.
