The Senate Passes the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or the economic stimulus package as most have come to know it, passed the Senate on February 10, 2009. This package includes over $838 Billion in relief to the American economy. The House version includes over $819 Billion. The act will now go to conference committee to be ratified by both houses and then to the President. The Senate passage was considered a big step in the passage of this act.

Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) calls the passage “a major step forward to turn the country around,” and that “This is about jobs, jobs, jobs.”
