Local 1315 Walks, Runs and Rolls to Applaud Cancer Survivors and Remember Those Who Have Succumbed

Revlon run-walk May 10 2008 049 copy.jpgA strong delegation of Local 1315 members and their families turned out for the Entertainment Industries’ Revlon Run/Walk for Women May 10 in Los Angeles.

“Actually,” President Maggie Cook reports, “It was a 5k Run/Walk and Roll—I was in a wheelchair.”  Starting at the L.A. Coliseum, participants went through the USC and Exposition Park areas, returning at the end to the Coliseum.  And, though it was cold standing around waiting for the events to start, it was good walking weather, says Cook.

Some of the group walked carrying lavender trimmed signs in support of 11 Local 1315 Sisters and Gloria Carter, an IAM sister in Long Beach; others carried signs trimmed in green in memory of seven Local 1315 sisters who lost their fight with cancer: Patricia Casas, Wanda Hicks, Karen Pedini, Marcia Scuka, Sandra Sweeney, Jane Ulmer and Vivan Williams.

“This was my fifth year participating and the experience is still overwhelming at times,” Cook says.  “You recognize names and photos of survivors and a year or two later, the family and friends are walking in memory—and yet every year we leave stronger in our dedication to find cures, and with more commitment, hopes and prayers for the survivors.”

Local 1315 members seen in the photo include survivor Kirsten Bell, Milca Elorriga, Jackie Fields, Velma Herandez, Fanny Ortiz, Chavone Ray, Dalila Valles, survivor Betty Velazquez and Cook.
