TCU/IAM Congratulates ATDA and Union Pacific Train Dispatchers on Organizing Breakthrough

October 30, 2026 – The Transportation Communications Union (TCU/IAM) congratulates the American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA) and the Train Dispatchers at Union Pacific following the National Mediation Board’s October 29 announcement authorizing a representation election.

“Organizing a union takes courage, determination, and a commitment to standing together, especially when facing opposition from a powerful corporation,” said TCU/IAM National President Matt Hollis. “The Train Dispatchers at Union Pacific have demonstrated exactly that kind of solidarity, and they should be proud of what they’ve accomplished. TCU/IAM is proud to stand with them and our Brothers and Sisters at ATDA as they move closer to securing a voice on the job.”

Every railroad worker deserves the protection of a union contract, the right to bargain collectively over wages, benefits, and working conditions, and the security of knowing they have representation when their rights are challenged. Those rights aren’t handed to workers by corporations. They’re won when workers stand together and demand them.

At a time when corporate power and economic inequality continue to grow, the labor movement needs more workers standing together, not fewer. Every successful organizing campaign strengthens all of us, and the courage of these Train Dispatchers should serve as an inspiration to workers across the country. TCU/IAM congratulates ATDA and the Union Pacific Train Dispatchers on the tremendous work they’ve done to get to this point. We’re behind you every step of the way, and we look forward to welcoming you into the ranks of organized rail labor.
