TCU/IAM Joins Opposition to UP/NS Merger

August 27, 2026, Rockville, MD – TCU leadership has met extensively with Union Pacific Labor Relations, all the way up to the CEO, seeking meaningful commitments to protect our members from the impacts of the proposed UP-Norfolk Southern merger. Despite those efforts, we have received little more than assurances. TCU’s members have voiced their concerns. TCU will exhaust every effort to ensure those concerns are heard, addressed, and reflected in meaningful protections.

“Our members’ interests will always be our top priority. They do the work every single day to make both of these Carriers successful. The expected labor impact of this merger directly threatens hundreds of good-paying union jobs and disregards the years of service and commitment our members have given these railroads. They deserve more than promises. They deserve an agreement that protects their positions and work into the future.” TCU National President Matt Hollis
