House Introduces Legislation Supporting Railroad Retirement Day

House resolution 1463 was recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to support the goals and ideals of Railroad Retirement Day. August 29, 2010 has been designated as Railroad Retirement Day by the Railroad Retirement Board.

The House wishes all the people in the United States to celebrate the importance of the railroad retirement system to working families.

The first formal pension plan established in America was in 1874 in the railroad industry. With the 1935 Law and subsequent changes including the 2001 Railroad Retirement and Survivors’ Improvement Act, railroad pensions may be the very best in the United States.

TCU International President Bob Scardelletti calls the 2001 Railroad Retirement and Survivors’ Improvement Act, “the greatest accomplishment of our lifetime.”
