TCU/IAM Members Ratify Long Island Rail Road Agreement by Extraordinary Margin

June 11, 2026, NEW YORK – Members employed at the Long Island Rail Road have ratified an Agreement, concluding a years-long bargaining process that culminated in a historic coalition-wide strike and a voluntary settlement with the Carrier.

Member participation in the ratification vote reached unprecedented levels, reflecting the engagement and commitment of the membership throughout negotiations. The agreement was approved by 97%.

The ratification brings to a close a bargaining round that began in 2022 and included mediation before the National Mediation Board, the appointment of two Presidential Emergency Boards under the Railway Labor Act, and the first Long Island Rail Road strike in more than three decades.

“This ratification result speaks for itself,” said TCU/IAM National President Matt Hollis. “Our members carefully evaluated this agreement and delivered a decisive verdict. I could not be prouder of the unity, determination, and professionalism displayed by our members throughout this process. They remained engaged every step of the way, and together they secured an agreement that reflects the value of their work and the strength of collective action. I also want to thank the officers, representatives, and coalition partners whose tireless efforts helped bring this round of bargaining to a successful conclusion.”

TCU/IAM National Vice President Nick Peluso praised the membership for its patience and perseverance during one of the most challenging bargaining rounds in recent history.

“This process required patience, discipline, and trust from our members,” said Peluso. “There were moments when progress seemed slow and moments when the outcome remained uncertain. Our members never lost sight of the goal. They stayed informed, stayed involved, and stayed united. They are the backbone of the LIRR. The resounding support for ratification of this agreement is a testament to their strength and commitment. I want to thank every member and every family member who supported them along the way. This result belongs to all of them.”
